Zygaenidae family of moths are typically day flying moths and generally have metallic sheen and prominent spots of red or yellow. The bright colors is to warn its predators that it is toxic. However, unlike other butterflies that use similar defensive tactics, Zygaenidae produce their own toxins, hydrogen cyanide. They are mostly found in temperate regions with an estimated 1000 species. They are commonly known as Burnet moths or Smoky moths.
